Sustainability is the goal to have people live in balance with the Earth - to not damage the environment, or the things living on it. All things on earth are so interconnected that harming one aspect of the environment can, in turn, cause harm to humans, as well.
Tourism can be harmful to communities and the environment, as it can be highly impactful. Eco-tourism is a movement to counteract (go against) the down sides of tourism. Eco-tourism promotes responsible travel, aiming to reduce negative impacts on the environment and local communities while supporting conservation efforts and expanding education and awareness. It emphasizes nature-based experiences and often involves supporting local businesses and communities.
The farm I visited primarily grows olives to make olive oil, but they also grow grapes for wine, as well as apples and lemons. We started off our visit with an olive oil tasting! During the olive oil tasting, I learned all about the different qualities of olive oil! Did you know that if you plant other plants near the olive trees - like almonds, rosemary, apples, walnut, grass, artichokes - they can slightly change the overtaste of the olive oil to have different hints of flavors from the surrounding plants? Olive oil can be more bitter or more sweet, but usually the more bitter olive oil has more antioxidants which are good for your body.
