English is the main language spoken in Belfast, but some people speak Irish, which is very cool! In the South of Ireland, all of the road signs are in both Irish and English. The airport in Dublin has Irish on all its signs, too!
We use the Great British Pound (GBP) in Northern Ireland. In the Republic of Ireland, or 'the South,' the Euro (EUR) is used. Here are some conversions:
1 GBP = 1.34 USD
1 EUR = 1.16 USD
1 GBP = 1.15 EUR
A bottle of water costs around 90p, or 90 'pence.' That is about $1.20!
My favorite meal this week was a Cuban sandwich I got for lunch with my friend Maria! She is a fellow Fulbrighter from the USA, studying at Queen's University, another college in Belfast! I got a ropa vieja (cuban sandwich), which has beef and peppers.
This week, I had to work on my final exams for my program, so I listened to a lot of lofi study music. Outside of that, I've been listening to Fontaines D.C., an Irish alternative rock band that the locals love!
