The Belfast Riverside

Photos

I started my day at the Belfast School of Art, part of my university, which has a coffee shop attached and sometimes displays student artwork
Inside the art school, there is a small cafe, I got a strawberry matcha!
One of Belfast’s greatest accomplishments is the construction of the Titanic, and the yellow cranes used for it still stand as landmarks by the river
Another riverside landmark, the Big Fish, is exactly what it sounds like—a large fish statue whose surface is decorated with old Belfast newspaper articles and important historic figures
These seal heads are based on a local celebrity, Sammy the Seal, who swam close to shore in the 1980s and 1990s and now has a permanent spot by the river
The area near the river is known as Queen's Quay (pronounced “key”), and it has a marked path that is exactly one mile long, making it a popular spot for runners, like my close friend Abby, who plans to run in the Belfast City Marathon
In Queen’s Quay, Belfast's arena, is part of a large complex with lots of restaurants, arcades and a movie theater, and it’s used for hockey and many other events
Along the riverside, there is lots of stained glass art, much of it themed after Game of Thrones because it was filmed here
