Life in South Korea Through the Eyes of a Student

What do you like to do in your free time?:

When I'm not studying or completing homework, I like to play board games with my friends, watch Netflix, and go to the movies. I especially love sci-fi and action movies! I live near the Han River, so I take lots of peaceful walks there. It's one of my favorite places to relax.

What language(s) do you speak? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

I speak Korean and English. Korean is my native language, and I started learning English in elementary school, around the age of eight. In South Korea, kindergarten is optional, and children attend elementary school from the age of eight to thirteen, middle school from fourteen to sixteen, and high school from seventeen to nineteen. Now, as a university student, I take classes entirely in English.

If you want to say hello in Korean, say 안녕하세요 (an-nyeong ha-se-yo)!

Do you have pets?:

Sadly, I'm allergic to animals, so I can't have a pet. But if I could, I'd love a tiny Chihuahua! Pets are really popular in South Korea, especially dogs. People love to dress them up and even push them in dog strollers— yes, strollers just for dogs! In fact, more dog strollers are sold in South Korea than baby strollers. South Koreans love to spoil and pamper their pets!

Have you traveled? Where have you traveled to?:

I have traveled overseas a couple of times. I visited Boston, New York in the United States. I have also been to Tokyo, Japan. Japan is super close to South Korea. I also went to Saipan, which is located in the Northern Mariana Islands. I hope to visit Spain next!
