Planes, Trains and Trolleys: My Transportation Journey in Spain and Portugal

Introduction:

The biggest difference that I have noticed so far in my lifestyle in Spain compared to the United States has been that I have not driven a car, and I have barely even ridden in one, since I have gotten here. I typically use my car every day in Kansas, since most things, whether it be school, work or going to a restaraunt or activity, are so spread out that it would take hours to walk anywhere. But in Vigo, that is not the case. I walk almost everywhere except to my school, where I'll take a bus. To a farther city I'll take a bus, train or plane. It is far more common to take public transport in Spain, so cars are not as often needed for day to day activities. I miss my car for sure, but I have been walking a whole lot more since arriving to Spain, which is great for my health and an amazing opportunity to see the beautiful views the country has to offer.

I will be examining some of the different modes of transport in Spain (and Portugal) in this article, based on my Halloween Fall Break trip, where I went to Bilbao and San Sebastián, Spain, and Porto, Portugal. I used many different modes of transport throughout this trip, so it is the perfect time to talk about the variety of options you can use to get places here!
