In the region of Spain where I live, which is called Galicia, the key part of the local cuisine is seafood. Being right on the Atlantic Ocean, there are so many yummy, fresh fish to try. They even have some fish that would seem unusual to us back in the United States that are commonly consumed here. These include octopus, barnacles, cuttlefish and more! Another important word to learn about Spanish food is tapas. A tapa is the word for a small, little bit to eat, which can sometimes be a little sandwich, Spanish omelet, fried ball of meat or fish and cheese and many more. Throughout my time here, I have gotten the chance to try numerous local tapas that I'm excited to share with you!
Some of the Galician seafood I've tried has been: pulpo a feira (fair octopus), croquetas de choco (croquettes with cuttlefish), and calamares (fried and grilled calamari/squid).
I was slightly nervous about the idea of eating octopus before trying it. I consider myself an adventurous eater and have been eating fish since I was only three years old, but I'd never tried octopus before. Eating the suction cup-like tentacles was a little bit out of my comfort zone.
