I have made it to Casablanca, Morocco, the starting point for my Pedal to Port expedition! One of the first things I like to do when arriving somewhere new is simply look around. What are people doing? What does the city sound like? What is different from home? Transportation is one of the easiest differences to notice.
Casablanca is a large, busy city, and there is almost always something moving. From my apartment near the Atlantic Ocean, I have been exploring the surrounding streets on foot and paying attention to how people get from place to place. Tomorrow, I'll add another form of transportation to the mix: my bicycle!
From what I have seen so far, cars, scooters, and walking are everywhere. There are plenty of taxis and cars, but one thing that immediately caught my attention was the number of scooters and motorcycles. They are small, quick, and seem well suited for moving through the busy streets. And people walk. A lot.
That has been one of my favourite parts of Casablanca.
