Casablanca is a large city, but many of the things people need are close enough to reach on foot. Walking also puts people together in public spaces. From what I have seen, the streets here aren't simply places people travel through. They are places where people spend time.
The scooters make sense too. They are small and easy to move through crowded city streets, and they take up much less space than cars.
For me, transportation is about to change completely. Tomorrow morning at about 7:00 a.m., I'll leave Casablanca by bicycle and begin riding north toward Spain. Instead of watching transportation in Morocco, I'll become part of it. And I'll be seeing Morocco at bicycle speed. I have a feeling I'm going to notice a lot along the way.
