From Moroccan Breakfasts to Spanish Tapas

Lunch is often eaten around 2:00 p.m., while dinner may not begin until 9:00 p.m. or later. That has taken some adjustment for me because I like to start cycling early and often finish around lunchtime.

What would be harder for you to adjust to: a completely different breakfast, or waiting until 9:00 at night for dinner?

How did I feel when I tried it?:

Trying unfamiliar food is one of my favorite parts of traveling. Sometimes I know exactly what I'm ordering. Other times, especially when there is a language barrier, I'm not completely sure what will arrive.

Moroccan breakfast was probably my biggest surprise. The amount and variety could be impressive, and it was great before a long day of cycling. My problem was the timing! I like to begin riding early, but some hotels didn't serve breakfast until 8:00 or 9:00 in the morning.

In Spain, I have enjoyed stopping at cafés after riding. I can park my loaded bicycle beside a table, order something to eat and watch everyday life happening around me.

How is the food prepared?:

Many Moroccan breakfast foods are fairly simple. Breads and pancakes are cooked on a hot surface and served with things such as honey, butter, cheese or spreads. Fresh fruit and orange juice are also common.

Spanish jamón requires much more time.
