It's been fun learning Danish traditions from them, especially as the holiday season approaches.
I finished reading Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar for a book club I've joined in Aarhus. The novel follows Cyrus, a young Iranian American man who is trying to understand his family's past and find meaning in his own life. After losing his mother when he was very young, he begins learning more about her life and the events that shaped his family. The book explores questions about family, identity, and belonging. I've enjoyed being part of a book club here because it's a great way to meet new people and encourages me to read more books.
I played several games with my friends and roommates this week. With my international friends, I played Skyjo, a card game where the goal is to finish with the fewest points. My Danish roommates and I also played Twister, which was just as chaotic and funny as I remembered playing it growing up.
My roommates and I love completing the Popkryds, a monthly pop culture crossword book, together. The crossword includes clues and answers in both English and Danish. We slowly complete the book over the course of a few weeks, and it's a fun way to practice my Danish vocabulary while spending time with my roommates!
