Unfortunately, you have caught me at a bad time for sports. I love sports, and I try to play every week. If you caught me last week, you would’ve heard the story of how I beat a bunch of high schoolers in basketball. If you catch me next week, you will hear how I won my very first tennis tournament in Guatemala (highly unlikely that I actually win). Unfortunately, now you just get to hear me cry as my soccer game was postponed, postponed again and then canceled due to rain. I am devastated.
I got paid! I feel so alive! Welcome to life as a volunteer. Every month, the organization I work for, the Peace Corps, pays each volunteer a monthly stipend. This stipend has been specially made through countless surveys, interviews and studies each year to perfectly handle the financial situation of each of their volunteers. It covers rent, food, transportation and other expenses such as hygiene products. Because everything is so specific, I find myself fearing for my life at the end of every pay period because I am barely holding on to the 10q I have left. Not today, though, because I just got paid!
