Como voluntario del cuerpo de paz, me mandaron a mi comunidad con una iniciativa. Mi trabajo es concentrado en enseñar inglés como lengua extranjera. Aquí he encontrado maneras en cómo puedo enseñar dondequiera.
When I began training to be a volunteer in Peace Corps Colombia, I was taught about the 3 main objectives of the Peace Corps:
“To help the people of interested countries in meeting their need for trained men and women.
To help promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served.
To help promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans.”
When I started my service as a volunteer, I focused mainly on objective 1 and allowed goals 2 and 3 to come along the way. In my town, I recognized the desire to learn English quickly. In town, people tried to say “hello” or “how are you” to me once they knew I was an English speaker. Additionally, people asked me about teaching, tutoring and leading activities. The Peace Corps connected me to a school in my town before moving me, and students in my school tried to speak to me in English regardless of their proficiency levels. Observing this, I felt affirmed that I would have an opportunity to help in the desire to learn English.
