I visited south of France with my friends to explore the coastal town of Menton for its Citrus Festival. This tradition was suggested to my friends and me by our host families when we asked them to reccomend us something to do on our free weekend. While my host family lives in Geneva, they are able to travel to the south of France because Switzerland is in the center of Europe, making it a great home base for travel. They told me how magical the Mediterranean part of France is and how the town of Menton transforms into a massive citrus art display each year for the festival. So, my friends and I decided to go. First, we flew into Nice, France, before taking a 20-minute train to Monaco, where we got a picture on the F1 track! Finally, we arrived in Menton to settle in for the festival weekend.
Once the festival began, we viewed massive sculptures, which are hand-made out of individual oranges and lemons. The festival is called the “Citrus Festival” and has so many oranges and lemons because the town of Menton grows so many each year, and celebrates its local agriculture through the celebrations each year. At the festival, both locals and tourists were dancing to music, appreciating the jaw-dropping and extravagant parade floats, eating fruit, and celebrating life.
