The Chinese Wedding Ceremony

The choices of color, specific guidelines for the timing of ceremonies and unique proceedings are all elements that hold deep significance in Chinese culture. There are common themes in China such as good fortune, luck, honor and loyalty. Also, family, respect for elders and order of relationships are other important aspects of society.

Is this tradition connected to its environment? How?:

Local environments may be very influential in the way that Chinese people decide whom to marry, why to marry and how to celebrate the union. Weddings in rural China are more traditional, whereas those in large cities are more modern and even include Western traditions such as the bride wearing white instead of red. In Shanghai and other large cities, parents may have less influence over their child’s choice of a partner and the style of the wedding ceremony may be celebrated in a more modern fashion.
