Eventful Eating in China

The outside is chewy and sticky, it is easy to bite into and they are steaming inside with hot cabbage, onion, mushrooms, pork and onion. My favorite type of dumplings are not as typical as vegetable or pork, they are called "har gow", and contain steamed shrimp. I really like shrimp and the best ones I have tried had orange fish eggs on the top that have a delicious flavor. Pork is the most common meat consumed in China and one dish gaining popularity is "baozi", barbecue pork buns. The buns are sticky, soft and sweet and inside there is barbeque flavored pork. Lastly, stir fry is another popular type of dish in China. Stir fry can be with egg, rice, shrimp and other meats and vegetables. One type that is very yummy and popular is cauliflower stir fry. Usually, there will be some other vegetables, pork and a sauce for flavor mixed in, but cauliflower is the main component. Have you ever had cauliflower? Have you had it in a stir fry?

How did I feel when I tried it?:

Sometimes when sharing dishes I feel rushed and unfulfilled when I have to pass a dish or I want more but the dish is gone. For the most part, I enjoy getting to try many things in one sitting and usually I feel very full by the end of these meals. Sometimes I am surprised by things that I try because many textures and flavors are new to me. I am not a big fan of spicy food, but the longer I am in China the more I become accustomed to eating it because much of the food here is quite spicy. I haven’t gotten sick from anything here that I have eaten, but I do know of some people who have had that issue, so it is good to make sure your food is prepared correctly and safely.
