Our News

What main languages are spoken here?:

Every day I am surrounded by countless languages. I mostly hear Hungarian, but I have also caught German, Russian and Italian. I know other common languages are Serbian and Romanian. In the fall, I took some Hungarian lessons and now I am attempting to use an online program called Transparent to learn more helpful words and phrases in Hungarian. It's a resource through U.S. libraries that I highly recommend.

What type of money is used here?:

The main form of currency is the Hungary Forint (HUF). However, many restaurants and signs also show the price in Euros since that is the most common form of currency outside of Hungary.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A bottle of water cost around 200 HUF, which is roughly 0.60 U.S. cents. Pretty cheap! However, throughout the country, there are many water bottle filling stations, so I am never without a full reasuble bottle.

What was the best meal this week?:

One of my favorite foods is chicken alfredo and I'll eat it just about anywhere, anytime, and any way. Back at home, I am able to conveniently and cheaply get microwave meals when I crave it, but in Hungary I have to make it from scratch. I've gotten pretty good at it.
