Mongolia’s Environment - The Land of Winter

Introduction:

Nearly ten months of winter may sound like an exaggeration, but if your definition of "winter" means you need to wear a real coat, then you will be surprised to find out what an adventure in Mongolia has in store for you! Mongolia's environment is very unique, as it is extremely dry and cold, making life quite challenging, if you are not prepared! Despite this, Mongolia still has lots of different plants and vegetation as well as local animals! This field note will discuss the challenges and the interesting things about Mongolia's environment and how it has impacted daily lives and culture here.

What makes this environment special or different?:

Mongolia has a very northern location within the Northern Hemisphere, meaning that it is very far away from the sun during winter! This means that there is not much light and heat from November to March. Also, Mongolia has the Gobi Desert, which is the sixth largest desert in the whole world! This means that especially the southern regions of Mongolia are extremely dry.

What parts of this environment help people to live here?:

In Mongolia, the number of animals heavily outweigh the number of people.
