This is a literary science fiction story which also takes place in Kolkutta; however, this is a Kolkutta of the near future where climate change has ravaged the land, and people are struggling to survive amidst food scarcity. It primarily centers around a mother who is attempting to come to the United States as a climate refugee. My original goal for this year was to read 75 books, but as shifting to India and settling in became quite hectic, it was clear that this goal was no longer going to be possible for me to reach. I've found myself with less and less time for reading, but in an attempt to stay grounded with reading and writing, I've begun reading short stories and poetry. My favorite poet is Hanif Abdurraqib who is from Columbus, Ohio. I've been reading short stories from Oscar Wilde as one reading goal I had this year was to read more Irish authors. I've found a connection to home in Abdurraqib's poetry and Wilde's stories.
I don't really play sports, but yoga is the main way in which I stay active. I have not found a yoga studio here yet, but I often do short yoga sessions with a YouTube video. In an attempt to find somewhere outside to exercise, I tried a pilates class which was fulfilling but also very physically challenging. There is a promenade along the waterfront that is about a 15 minute walk from my house. At Holy Name, I ran cross country, yet at some point in college I stopped running. The urge to go for a run again has returned, and I'm hopeful that when I have free early mornings I can go for a run along the water.
