Monsoon season in Goa typically lasts from June to September; however, I have been told that this year was unusually dry. When I first arrived, there would be periods of intense rain that appeared out of nowhere and then vanished after a few minutes of heavy downpour. Ever since we have fully settled into October, I have not experienced much rain here. However, the intense heat and high levels of humidity have been consistent since I arrived. As I'm writing this at 1PM on Sunday, October 11, the temperature is 95 degrees Fahrenheit. When looking at the week ahead, high temperatures range from 88-94 degrees with lows ranging from 78-80 degrees. From now through the next few months, the weather is supposed to be the coolest it is all year. The lack of rain and highly increased temperatures during what is the "winter" here are large signs of a rapidly changing climate. In normal circumstances, January is widely considered the coolest month in Goa, but even then, temperatures still range from 74 degrees Fahrenheit to 87 degrees. As I come from Cleveland, I am not used to the heat.
