As this is a major part of Goa's history, I look forward to listening to live music that has significant heritage here.Salsa and bachata are very popular forms of dance, here, and I went to one dance night, where of course they were playing music for these dances! Additionally, many cafes and restaurants have live music, but most of the time performers will sing covers of popular American songs.
Swimming in the ocean has been a lot of fun! Over the summer, I was trying to learn how to swim. Of course, it is very different in a pools than in the ocean. Here, I have not been venturing out very far as I am not so confident in my abilities, but I have been having fun just being in the water. Growing up, I never really went to the beach, and this is a whole new "seascape" for me!
I've been reading Independence by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni. She is a very popular Indian author who often takes well known stories and writes them from a new perspective. Two of her most famous books, The Palace of Illusions and The Forest of Enchantments narrate the two major Hindu epics (Mahabharata and Ramayana) from the perspectives of women. Independence is a historical fiction novel set in West Bengal in 1947. Amidst rising tensions in the wake of Partition, three sisters navigate personal ambitions and relationships in their own ways. I just joined a book club here, and I am halfway through "A Guardian and a Thief" by Megha Majumdar.
