Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

This week, I traveled about 4 hours to visit Chachapoyas, the capital city of the Amazonas region in northern Peru. Chachapoyas is surrounded by mountains and clouds, which is why it’s sometimes called “the city of clouds.” It has a lot of history because it was once home to the ancient Chachapoya people, known as the “Warriors of the Clouds.” The city has old buildings, a beautiful main plaza, and nearby you can find amazing places like the Gocta Waterfall, one of the tallest waterfalls in the world. The trip was long, but the views made it worth it! While I never visited Gocta, I have visited Kuelap. Near the city of Chachapoyas is Kuelap, a massive stone fortress built over 1,000 years ago—long before the Incas! It sits high in the mountains and has stone walls, round houses, and beautiful views.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

I have traveled to Lima, which is 24 hours away by bus. I also visited Ecuador with my family when they visited a few months ago. Most travel is done by bus because airports are rare and flights are not usually scheduled when you want to travel.
