Next week is semana cultural (Culture Week) so all of my students are learning traditional dances from all around Peru. We have listened to huyano, selvatica, cumbia, and saya. Personally, I still listen to a lot of music from the United States with my students because the songs from the United States are very popular on TikTok and everyone wants to know what each song means.
The most fun activity this week was our School and River Cleaning Day! Everyone worked together to pick up trash around the school and along the river. It felt great to help the community and see the area looking clean and beautiful again.
I am reading three books right now: The Art of Zen and Motorcycle Maintence, Where'd You Go Bernadette, and En Agosto Nos Vemos. I am trying to read in Spanish to improve my language skills but it is much harder than reading in English.
I played volleyball (very badly), soccer (also very badly), and foosball (very well). I also watched a card game, if that counts!
This week I will be changing host families, so the majority of my free time has gone towards packing up my room and getting ready for the switch. I hope to remain friends with my current host family, but due to a medical issue, I need to move. Fingers crossed all goes well!
