This is an interivew with Meriam, a junior high student in Gbrumani. She is in 8th grade and has lived in Gbrumani her whole life. She is one of the top students in her class and is the Girl's President of the Junior High Health Club. She speaks Dagbani (the lanugage of people in northern Ghana) but also understands English at a high level.
For breakfast I have koko (a traditional porridge). For lunch I have beans For dinner I have tz (Tuo Zaafi, a traditional food made of flour and water) and okra soup.
I live with my whole family, all of my siblings, my parents and my grandparents. We have 4 rooms in our compound and one small house for the goats. I have 3 older siblings and 7 younger siblings. I share a room with 4 of my siblings. We typically sleep outside because of the heat. In the middle of the compound is where we cook food.
Every morning I wake up and sweep. I then go and get water from the dam. I then help my mom cook and help bathe my younger siblings. I then bathe myself and eat breakfast. I then help with doing dishes and get ready for school. When I come home from school, I help my mom wash everyone's clothes and clean the house.
