Let's Ride Around Budapest

Introduction:

Budapest is one of the most connected cities in the world. That means it's really easy to get from one place to another. Today, we'll learn how people get around, what it feels like to try it for the first time, and how transportation is a big part of life in Budapest.

How do people get around?:

People in Budapest use lots of different kinds of transportation. There are metros (underground trains), trams (above-ground trains), and buses.

There are four metro lines (red, blue, yellow, and green) that go all across the city: north, south, east, and west. The blue metro (called M3) is the most popular one because it goes the farthest. Trams ride above the ground and run on electricity, so no gas is needed. They are bright yellow, so you can spot them all over the city. If a tram can't reach somewhere, a bus can. The best part is that they come every 2 to 5 minutes, so you never have to wait very long.

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

At first, it felt a little scary. At every stop, there are big digital signs with lots of numbers and words showing where the tram or train is going and when it will arrive. That's a lot to look at all at once.

I started with the tram because it stops right outside my apartment.
