The other morning I treated myself to the Mengjes ne Istanbul ("Breakfast in Istanbul"), one of my favorite orders at a restaurant just down the road from my house. It consists of two fried eggs, suxhuk (a Balkan sausage), cucumber, tomato and a salty cheese that is kind of like feta. On the side, they serve fresh baked bread with jam, yoghurt, and ajvar (a popular roasted pepper spread). It's so filling and so delicious!
Albanian rap is pretty popular right now. I don't have a radio in my apartment, and since I don't ride in the car frequently, I don't hear a lot of it. One of the restaurants where I often swing by for a quick bite always has music videos playing on the television!
Without a doubt, the New Year's Eve celebration in central Prishtina was my highlight of the week. I wasn't feeling up for a late night, so I almost didn't go down to the center for midnight, but a friend convinced me I had to. I'm glad he did! We walked down to the area that I can only describe as the Times Square of Kosovo, where the fireworks were set to go off at about ten minutes before midnight. Yes, it was that easy! The display was really impressive. They don't have the safety regulations here that we do in the U.S., but the fireworks were really interesting because of it!
