A Day In The Life of A Student In North Macedonia.

Each month shifts flip, meaning the students who attend school in the morning will attend school in the afternoon and the students who attend school in the afternoon will attend school in the morning. For the month of November, Mirce is attending school during the second shift. Mirce arrives at school at 1:30pm and leaves school between 7-7:30pm, depending on what classes he has that day. Mirce prefers the second shift because it allows him to sleep, cook breakfast and do his chores.

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

Mirce does not live far from the school. Sometimes he enjoys walking to school with his friends. Other times he has a family member drive him to school, especially when it’s raining, snowing, or very cold. Many students live close to the school and therefore walk to school. However, some live outside of the town, in a nearby village, and take a bus to school.

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

For lunch, Mirce enjoys going to the local cafes in Kochani to get a traditional Macedonian meal called Burek. Burek is a type of pastry or pie made from a light-weight dough that is stuffed with a white cheese or meat. Burek is very tasty and one of the first foods I tried when I arrived in North Macedonia!

What language do you speak at school? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

Mirce speaks Macedonian in school. Most people in Kochani speak either Macedonian or Turkish. Mirce can speak perfect English but most of his classes are taught in Macedonian. "Hello" in Macedonian is Zdravo
