In North Macedonia, it is common for extended families to live in the same house. Mirce lives with his mother, father, sister, grandpa and grandma. His house is three stories tall!
Mirce said that he loves his house! The inside is decorated with colorful art and detailed statues that represent the history of North Macedonia. The outside of Mirce’s house is surrounded by vegetable gardens that Mirce’s family built over the past ten years. Mirce’s gardens are full of bell peppers, carrots and tomatoes. He loves eating the cherry tomatoes while gardening (when his parents are not looking, of course!)
Students in North Macedonia do lots of chores at home. Mirce helps his parents wash dishes, make meals, clean, do the laundry, garden and more. All children and siblings are expected to help care for their family members, especially older family members such as grandparents and greatparents.
Mirce’s mother works in a local shop in Kochani. Mirce’s father works at a local vineyard assisting his grandfather with his business making delicious wine and selling boxes of tasty grapes. Both of Mirce’s parents enjoy gardening. They have built a vegetable garden in their yard. They enjoy using the vegetables in their garden to make fun new meals!
