Living Life Through Food

Introduction:

Throughout this year in Korea, I have had the opportunity to try so many different foods, from Korean BBQ (ssam-gap-sal) to kimchi, from a very spicy leaf to intestines! Some of these foods I loved from the start while others took some work to like. I am, however,  thankful for all of the culinary experiences that have come my way this year!

What food did I try?:

I have tried so many different foods since coming to Korea. By far, my two favorite foods are 닭갈비 (dak-gal-biand 김밥 (kim-bap). Dakgalbi is a spicy chicken stirfry dish and kimbap is a common 'sandwich-like' snack.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

I was nervous about both dishes prior to eating them. When I tried dakgalbi for the first time, I was nervous about the spiciness. When I first arrived in Korea, I had a tough time with any foods that were spicy, so when ordering this dish, I asked the waitress to add cheese and now  dakgalbi is my favorite Korean dish. Kimbap was confusing at first. It looks a lot like sushi and I don't eat fish, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it's typically made with rice, meats, and vegetables.

How is the food prepared?:

Dakgalbe is made in a big skillet in front of you.
