Korean Magpie (까치)

I was so confused, I remember thinking, "There are lizards in Seoul, how is that possible?" And then it jumped, spread its wings, and flew away. I remember thinking, "Korea has weird birds here." But now, after seeing them more time, I think they are pretty cool actually.

Where does it live?:

In Seoul, magpies live anywhere they can find a good view and a good snack. They often perch on the highest branch of ginkgo and pine trees. It gives them the perfect outlook spot to spy on people walking below them. Their nests are enormous, consisting of an assortment of twigs in the shape of a dome. These nests are tucked into tall trees or even delicately balanced on telephone poles. You can see these birds all over Seoul. They might be soaring across the river, hopping through a park, or confidently strutting along a rooftop. This bird fits right into the vivid city.

How does it use its environment to survive?:

The Korean magpie is a very intelligent bird that uses the city like a giant treasure map. Seoul is a city that incorporates a lot of nature into its city. If this bird wants to hide from the sun, it can fly to a nearby tree and relax in its shady hideout. If it wants to perch someone high to scope out its next destination, it can fly next door to a tall building. If it gets hungry, it can fly to a local park and snack on some juicy bettles. These birds have sharp eyes to help them spot danger from far away. In the city of Seoul, they won't have to worry about predators, though; the only danger they have to worry about is a toddler running full speed towards them, wanting to wrap their small fingers around them.
