Art in Paris

Introduction:

Paris is a city known for its love of art. Every fall, the city hosts a festival called "Festival D'Automne à Paris" which translates to Autumn Festival in Paris.

What tradition did I learn about?:

I learned about the Autumn Festival in Paris, which is an annual festival celebrating the arts. All throughout the city there are music and theater performances and art exhibitions. I went to an art exhibition that featured student artists. One artwork I saw was meant to look like a giant candle and was made out of wax and steel. In another work that I saw, the artist had arranged glass of different colors on the floor to create a beautiful pattern.

Why does the community have this tradition?:

This festival has been happening for almost 50 years! Its goal is to give everyone in Paris the chance to enjoy art and to allow artists to present their work to a wide audience.

Is this tradition connected to its environment? How?:

The Autumn Festival has events all throughout the city at various times and places throughout the fall season. Since there are events all over and many of them are free, everyone is able to take part in the festival.
