My visit to Parc Monceau

Introduction:

This past week I went to a park called Parc Monceau (pronounced "Mahn-so"). It was very beautiful and had lots of trees, flowers, geese and even some art! I was excited to see another giant tree, but I also just enjoyed walking through the park's stone pathways and wooden bridges.

What does this creature or plant look like?:

This tree was gigantic! I have seen some other big trees in Paris, but this one was definitely the biggest. Its trunk had large bumps on it, where moss was growing. The leaves of the tree had started to change color for fall but most of them remained on the tree.

How did I feel when I saw it?:

I love seeing big trees because it means that they have grown undisturbed in the same place for many, many years. Whenever I see a giant tree, I imagine what the place and people were like when the tree was first being planted. Seeing giant trees anywhere excites me, but especially in cities, since trees are often removed to make room for buidlings.

Where does it live?:

Trees live all over the world!

How does it use its environment to survive?:

Through their roots, trees take nutrients and water from the soil. They also need sunlight, because they use some of the sun's energy to make their food in a process called photosynthesis.
