A Kid's Life

There is another house in my yard that my grandparents live in."  

What chores do you have at home?:

Alisha:  "I dust the TV and stand, sweep inside the house and do the dishes."

Sky:  "I wash the car, clean the chairs, make my bed and sweep the inside of the house."

What jobs do your parents have?:

Alisha:  "My mother is a library assistant."

Sky:  "My mother is a teacher and my father works as a builder." 

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:


Alisha:  "School begins at half past 7 and finishes at half past 2." 

Sky:  "School begins at 5 am and finishes at 1 pm"

Alisha goes to a public school in the village where I live. 

Sky goes to a private, english medium, school in the capital of Botswana, Gaborone. 

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

Alisha:  "I walk to school by myself.  Sometimes I walk with my friends."  "Walking to school takes about 5 minutes."

Sky:  "I talk a combi to school.  It takes about 10 minutes."  

John:  A combi is a van that is used like a small school bus or large taxi. 

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

Alisha:  "I eat in my classroom. Food is brought to the classroom by student lunch assistants. We eat at our desks."

Sky:  "I do not eat lunch at school.
