Meet the Spiral Aloe!

Introduction:

The spiral aloe is common to Lesotho. It is a different type of aloe plant than the one we find in America. It is shaped in a spiral and has healing elements that can be extracted from the aloe.

What does this creature or plant look like?:

This plant looks like a typical aloe plant, but the aloe leaves are arranged in a spiral pattern. They can grow to be quite big, but I typically only see ones that are about the size of a small bush. They can grow small pink flowers within the spiral.

How did I feel when I saw it?:

I was so excited! It is a beautiful plant and I had never seen one before. The reason I had never seen one before in America is because they are native to Lesotho.

Where does it live?:

The spiral aloe can grow anywhere in Lesotho. I have seen it in mountains and in the lowland areas.

How does it use its environment to survive?:

Aloe is a very resilient plant. It is a succulent, which means it doesn't need a lot of water. In the rainy season, though, it can survive through times that have lots of water. During the summer time in Lesotho, it can be very hot with a high U.V. index. This means the sun is very strong. The spiral aloe can survive the strong sun!
