Life in San Sebastián

More sun and warmer temperatures (80 degrees) in the summer make it a very beautiful place to be.

What parts of this environment help people to live here?:

The mountains and the beach are helpful for the local people. When the weather is nice, people go swimming or surfing in the ocean. Do you know how to swim or surf? The ocean also gives people access to fishing and trading, so it provides people with food and a way to earn a living.

What challenges do people face living in this environment?:

The challenges include a lack of sun and a very rainy climate. I never thought that lack of sun would have such an impact on my mood. During my time there in January, there was only one day of sunlight the whole time. The rest of the days were rainy. I never thought I would be so excited to see the sun! During that time, the city looked gray, and high winds and heavy rains made it hard to go outside. I spent a lot of time inside because of the weather.  Do you prefer a rainy day or a sunny day?

How have people been adapting to this environment?:

Although it is not very common, some people use sun lamps in their homes. These lamps shine light similar to the sun. If you sit under this lamp, you may feel better.  People in this city also look forward each year to the spring and summer, when the sunny weather returns and it's good weather for the beach! Of course, fishing operations and trade at the harbor continue all year long.  The seasideenvironment has a big impact on how people here live their lives.
