Transportation in Barcelona, Spain

Introduction:

When I used a taxi in Barcelona for the first time, I felt quite overwhelmed. The streets are filled with tons of cars, and thousands of people walk on the sidewalks. Lots of drivers get impatient and honk their horns. To get a taxi, I had to be aggressive and force my way through the crowd. Eventually, I waved down a taxi and  got in. My driver was from India and spoke little Spanish, but he did speak English. I told him where I wanted to go, and we chatted about where he was from.

It was nice to go fast through the city because I usually have to walk slowly through crowds to get where I want to go. I made it to my destination, and I paid the taxi driver about $6 for the ride.

Using taxis is an interesting method of transportation. You see the city from a different perspective, and you can always try having a conversation with the driver, too!

How do people get around?:

In the city, more than a million people want to get around as fast as possible in a small area. Some people travel by car, but many do not because of traffic, the cost of running a car and the pollution cars produce.

Some people travel by metro, which is an underground train. Some people who live in very hilly areas use a funicular. A funicular is a special train that can go up big hills and even mountains.
