I have visited many countries in Europe that use the ocean for trade and food. Some even remove the salt from sea water so that people can drink it! The ocean is also beautiful to look at. That's why many tourists like to visit seaside cities like Barcelona on vacation.
The oceans are sometimes dirty, though. For centuries, people have dumped waste and poisons into the oceans. If there is to be hope for the future, we will need to take steps to protect the ocean.
The ocean is a beautiful body of water. Here in Barcelona, the ocean appears to be a dark blue. In other parts of Spain, such as near Mallorca or Málaga, the ocean is a lighter hue of blue. Do you know why the ocean is blue? The blue color of the ocean occurs when the water absorbs many colors of light such as red, yellow, green and ultra-violet. The ocean absorbs blue light the least, so it reflects back a lot of blue light.
I am happy when I see the ocean. It reminds me of home and gives me a chance to get away from other people. However, the sight and sound of the ocean does not calm me as it does for some people.
