The city contains few grassy areas or gardens. In short, there is no wasted space in Barcelona! What is your town or city like? Are there a lot of people in a small area?
The community is doing its best with the limited space in the city. It is finding ways to take care of trash and recycling duties even though there is not a lot of space. Once I understood this, the system of leaving trash out on the road made sense. The people of Barcelona aren't littering, they are problem-solving. It's just another lesson brought to me by my study-abroad experience!
