¡Hola exploradores!
My name is Jadia Johnson, and I am a college student at the University of Miami studying Health Science with a minor in Spanish. I’m from Deerfield, Illinois, where I loved having dinner in the town square with friends, playing sports at the park, and riding my bike around the neighborhood.
This fall, I am studying abroad in the vibrant city of Barcelona, Spain! Spain is full of history and culture, and I can’t wait to share what I learn and experience with you all. I chose Barcelona because I fell in love with the Spanish language and want to practice my Spanish in real life. I’m especially looking forward to exploring the city, museums, and eating amazing food! I really want to try paella, which is a traditional Spanish rice dish with vegetables, meat,or seafood, and crema catalana, a creamy dessert similar to crème brûlée.
Throughout my journey, I’ll be teaching you about my favorite spots and sharing fun facts about daily life in Barcelona. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with friends, watching movies, and traveling. The world is such a big place, and I want to see as much of it as I can.
Thanks to the support of the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program, I have the opportunity to make this dream of studying abroad a reality. The Gilman Program helps students like me gain international experiences and I’m so grateful to be one of their recipients.
