Ramadan in Morocco

I've been invited to many Iftars by my Moroccan classmates and teachers, and every time we talk for hours!

Why does the community have this tradition?:

Fasting helps Muslims remember what is truly important. When they feel hungry or thirsty, they think about people who don’t always have enough food, and it reminds them to be thankful for what they have. It also helps them learn patience and self-control.

Is this tradition connected to its environment? How?:

Ramadan follows the lunar calendar, which means it starts when people see a special moon in the sky. Because of this, the holiday moves to different times of the year. Sometimes, Ramadan happens in summer when the days are long and hot, and sometimes it happens in winter when the days are shorter and cooler.
