The machine had a motor and looked a little bit like a weedwacker. We used this machine to get olives out of trees when we could not reach them by hand! We even had a contest to see who could collect the most olives! I tried really hard, but another team won!
In addition to picking olives, we also did two other activities. First, we tried some of the other foods on the farm. These included spicy olive oil, which we sipped in little cups. There was fresh honeycomb, too, which was one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten in my life. If I can eat Jordanian farm food every day, I will be very happy. Second, we visited a factory where farmers make olive oil! We watched the machines press the olives, then mix them together in a big tub. After that, we ate some pastries, and we smelled the air in the factory. It smelled like 100% olive oil--it was amazing!
At the end of the day, we went back to Amman. I learned a lot about how olives are grown in Jordan, and I even got to help farm them. I never knew about all of the steps needed to make olive oil. I also learned about farm foods in Jordan for the first time. Overall, I had a great day, and it is an experience I will not forget!
