Jordan has many natural wonders, from ancient buildings to beautiful landscapes. And in the fall, both the temperature and the environment turn green. This means there are a lot of opportunities for finding some wonderful fruits, vegetables and more. I took advantage of these conditions in November. My program went to the city of Irbid, and we picked olives on a farm!

Olives and olive trees are famous in Jordan. They have been around for over 5,400 years, and people often say Jordan was one of the first big producers of olive oil. It makes a lot of sense. A lot of food in Jordan uses olive oil, and people say olives are a big part of Jordanian history. Today, some of the trees are over 1,000 years old! In addition, the soil in Jordan is very rich, so there are a lot of minerals for trees and olives. That is why a lot of people think the olives in Jordan are some of the best in the world!

November is the best time for harvesting olives in Jordan, and the city of Irbid has some of the best olives in the country. One Saturday morning, I went to a farm to see the olive trees for myself. I helped pick the olives off the trees by whacking the trees with a machine.
