What Is Bushwalking?

Introduction:

Australians call the act of going for a stroll in a natural environment bushwalking. Getting outdoors is a popular activity in this country that overflows with natural beauty. While bushwalking is a fun activity, the people who are really into it are not typically focused on getting to their destination as quickly as possible. As a mode of transportation, it is more about moving slowly through the environment and taking in your surroundings.

How do people get around?:

In the United States, many people enjoy going on "hikes" in parks and forests. In Australia, people here also love this outdoor activity, but instead of hiking, they call it bushwalking. Australians will wear hiking boots, long pants, a short-sleeve shirt and a hat. It's important to always wear sunblock because the sun in Australia is very strong and can cause sunburns very easily. The Blue Mountains, which are one hour outside of Sydney, are the most popular place to go bushwalking. This is because you can see caves, walk along a river and get close to waterfalls after a few hours of bushwalking.

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

I had a fun time bushwalking, but if this was how I got around all the time, I might not enjoy it as much. I'm very lucky to be based in a city where I can catch a train if I am late for class.
