Help Australians Carry Their Opal Cards

Introduction:

In Sydney, everyone uses Opal cards so that they can use public transportation such as trains and buses. In New York, you only swipe the Metrocard once, but in Sydney, you scan the Opal Card twice. You scan it once before your ride, and then you scan it again after your ride. It is hard to have to take out your Opal Card twice, especially when you keep it inside your wallet.

What community need did I learn about?:

Public transportation is very easy to use in Sydney, and it is very popular too. That is because there are a lot of companies in the city where people work during the day. It's much easier to take public transportation than to bring your own car. It's cheaper too! Many Australians rely on the Opal Card so that they can take the bus or train to get to work on time.

Why does the community have this need?:

Without public transportation, not many people would be able to go to work in the city. It's important for Sydney to make it easy for people to take the train or bus because they will use it every day to get to work.

Is this need being met? How?:

Just like the Metrocard, the Opal Card is a good idea because you can put money onto the card. You don't have to pay the conductor or bus driver with cash or credit card every time you ride.
