Celebrating Passover Seder

Introduction:

At 7PM, we gathered in the dining area to eat homemade Jewish food. For the first time, I tried matzoh ball soup, which I had only seen pictures of before. Then my roommates explained the story and background of this ritual which is found in the Torah.

What tradition did I learn about?:

The Exodus from Egypt is a story in the Torah that explains how Jews gained their freedom. Throughout the celebration of the Passover Seder, the story is read from dinnertime until very late at night. The foods you eat during the celebration are very important and require a full day of preparation.

Why does the community have this tradition?:

This tradition is important to the Jewish faith because it allows people to learn about the history of Judaism. It also brings family and friends together to eat delicious food and pray. I learned so much about this tradition thanks to my roommates, who celebrate Passover Seder every year.

Is this tradition connected to its environment? How?:

This tradition is celebrated all around the world, but there are not many Jewish people in Australia. They only make up 0.4% of the total population. Celebrating Passover Seder is important to Jews who are living in Australia because they don't have a big community. This tradition allows them to get together and celebrate an important holiday together.
