He introduced me to his friends, both at meals and while playing pickup soccer. He taught me some easy phrases to use, and these have been very helpful for me since I have been here.
Another way I have been integrated into the Hungarian culture is through my other friend, Adám. I met him at a city meet-up, where young people like myself meet at a designated location to meet other young people. Adám is also a university student. We have been hanging out every week and I have gotten to know him and learn about his family. He grew up in the countryside and has a very different life experience as opposed to someone that is from Budapest. In the next couple of weeks, I will be traveling with him to go meet his family in the countryside! Adám is a very nice guy, and he is as excited to learn about the United States as I am to learn about Hungary. I am happy to have met a guy like Adám; he is making my experience in Budapest even more fun.
The last way that I have become integrated into Hungarian culture is by joining the local Rotaract Club. Rotaract is an international organization that is designated for high school and college students. They do service projects and fundraisers for their communities. Currently, the Budapest Rotaract Club is working on hosting a movie night to raise money for disabled people and ro raise awareness about their Christmas gift drive for impoverished children. While I do not understand everything that goes on during these Rotaract meetings because they are all in Hungarian, I am integrated into the community of Rotaract members. They all are able to speak English, which makes it easy for us to connect.
