Delicious Cameroonian Cuisine

Introduction:

One of the best parts about being in Cameroon is the wonderful food! I have never lived in a country that grew all the foods people eat. A wide range of tropical fruits are available, from ones we know such as mango and papaya to others such as bush plum and savagé mango. The fish all come from the local rivers or from the ocean when living on the coast and fresh fish is common. The north of the country is Muslim and has a culture of raising cattle. They produce much of the beef in Cameroon. This large mix of different cultures and regions produces so many different dishes and food that I don't have time to try them all.The foods that people eat in countries around the world are not only delicious and interesting but also are deeply connected to the local environment, culture or both! What foods can you think of bring aspects of your local environment or culture to life?

What food did I try?:

One of my favorite dishes in smoked fish with peanut sauce. It is a common home-cooked dish but is hard to find in restaurants. That is a big theme in Cameroonian cooking. Often, there are dishes that can only be found in peoples homes, and not at restaurants. Almost every day I eat a new type of food if I am in the city. It is different in the villages as there may be unique meals, but the variety is much smaller. They have amazing fish, but that is it and all the foods are based on fish.
