Hej from Copenhagen!

On weekends, I sometimes help my dad take our dog for a longer walk.

What jobs do your parents have?:

My mom is a Danish teacher for DIS (Study Abroad in Scandinavia), she teaches people like you how to speak Danish. My dad works from home on the computer. I'm not totally sure what he does, but it's something to do with security.

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

School starts at 8:00 am, but we all meet in the schoolyard first to play until the bell rings. We go home at different times, but for me, it's usually around 2:00 or 3:00 pm. We don't have school on Wednesdays until the older grades, which is pretty cool.

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

Yes, of course! I bike to school with my friends. Almost all the kids in my class bike or walk by themselves. It's not far. Copenhagen is very safe for bikes, and we have bike lanes everywhere.

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

We eat lunch in our classroom. Everyone sits at their desks and takes out their madpakke. We are allowed to talk, but it's usually pretty calm. My favorite food is probably ristet hot dog (med det hele); that's a roasted hot dog with all the toppings, especially the crispy fried onions. We get them from hot dog stands in the city.

What language do you speak at school? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

We speak Danish! We say Hej to say hello. It sounds just like hi in English. If we want to be more formal, we say Goddag.
