Journal Entry:

Good morning, everyone, and welcome to my final journal entry. I have had a lot of fun working with you guys and showing you around what is slowly becoming home. Together, we've explored food, nature, dialect and special events, and there is still so much more we can learn. I hope all of you continue to be curious about the world and to pursue knowledge of its many cultures, because there is always something more we can learn.

Living in Guatemala has broadened my view of how culture affects the people there, and I would not trade this experience for any other in the world. Yes, even if that experience were unlimited Lightning Lane passes at Disney World, I still wouldn’t trade it. Culture helps define what we do for fun, what we eat for every meal, how we respond to hardship, how we work and how we communicate. I already knew that culture affects these things, but living in Guatemala has helped me notice the extent to which it does.

Together, we have explored this theme quite a bit. When we talked about corn: you saw the extent to which Guatemala’s favorite vegetable has affected its farming, its diets, its recipes and even its religions.
