The main language spoken in Tel Aviv is Hebrew. However, Arabic is also widely spoken. While Hebrew and Arabic are the two most spoken languages in Tel Aviv, English is also used. The street signs are written in all three languages. Many Israelis, or the people who live in Israel, know how to speak English.
The currency, or money, used in Israel is called the New Israeli Shekel. The shekel is made up of both paper money and coins. An important thing to know is that the shekel does not have the same value, or worth, as a dollar. That is because one dollar is equal to about 3.60 shekels. So whenever I go shopping for food in grocery stores, the prices seem expensive, but they are actually similar to prices in America.
Believe it or not, Tel Aviv is an expensive city to live in! The costs of food and other things people need are very similar to the costs in New York City, which can get very expensive. Tel Aviv sells large water bottles that are one liter, which is about two times bigger than a regular water bottle in America. The cost of these large water bottles is about five shekels, which is about $1.50. However, you can buy a six-pack of 1.5-liter bottles for 11 shekels, or $3.00.
