Our News

What was the best meal this week?:

During our first week in Israel, the teachers and other staff members took all the students to a restaurant in Jaffa, a city just south of Tel Aviv. In this restaurant, they served a dish that is called Shakshouka. This dish consists of poached eggs in a sauce that has tomatoes, onions, and peppers, along with many different spices! We would take pieces of bread and dip it into the eggs and tomato.

What music did I listen to this week?:

When we performed the Dabke dance, we listened and danced to Arabic music.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

This past weekend, my school took us to visit the city of Akko, or Acre, in Galilee. Galilee is North of Tel Aviv and has lots of trees and mountains. During our time in Akko, we were divided into four groups to complete a scavenger hunt across the city. One of the challenges we needed to complete was to learn how to learn a dance called Dabke, which is a type of Arabic folk dance.

What did I read this week?:

As part of my homework for a class that talks about the different languages in Israel, I read a chapter from a book that talked about diglossia, which is the term for when a community of people speak two different forms of language. We read this to be able to learn more about the Arab communities that live in Tel Aviv and Israel.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

One of the activities that we performed in Akko was called the "Amazing Race". Each group had a list of different challenges to complete throughout the city. Whenever each challenge was finished, the group would get points.
